The University of Ibadan female football team, the UI Amazons, will not be participating in the upcoming NUGA Games 2025 scheduled to hold in Jos, as the team was not registered for the tournament.

In a match that was billed as a Pre-NUGA fixture but later realised to be a friendly encounter upon closer investigation, the UI Amazons took on the Lautech Female Hunters at the New Football Stadium, Awo on Thursday, September 25th, 2025.

Lautech looked to stamp their authority early, forcing a save from UI’s goalkeeper, Abigail. Their pressure paid off as they broke the deadlock with a swift counterattack that caught UI’s defence off guard.

The Amazons fought back and found an equaliser in the second half when Jennifer set Sarah through on goal, and she calmly slotted past the keeper. The turnaround was completed after a Lautech handball in the box gave UI a penalty, which goalkeeper Abigail confidently converted into the top-right corner.

UI’s Sarah continued to trouble the Lautech defence with her relentless runs and chance creation, but the scoreline remained 2–1 till full-time.

Despite the hard-fought win, the result does not guarantee a place in the NUGA Games, as the team was never registered to compete.
