Jaw War 2025: Nursing, Education, Law, Bello, ABH, Zik, Shine in Quarter-Finals

The quarter-finals round of the 2025 JAW WAR debate took place on September 30, 2025, at the Social Sciences large lecture theatre.

The debate, which was hosted by Grace Kenneth and Taiwo Oyeleye, was between six faculties and six halls of residence. The faculty round took place first with Clinical Sciences going against Nursing on the topic: “Should secondary school students be banned from using phones in Nigerian schools.” The Faculty of Technology and Education spoke on the topic: “Climate change in Africa: Priority or not?” Law and Social Sciences debated the topic: “Privatisation Versus nationalisation: which model best secures accountability in Nigerian state enterprises”.

The hall round came right after. Alexander Brown Hall and Obafemi Awolowo Hall argued on the topic: “Does the rise of automation in legal processes enhance or undermine justice?” Bello Hall and Queen Idia Hall debated: “Acts of terrorism in pursuance of decolonisation, a necessary evil?” Queen Elizabeth Hall and Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall debated the topic: “Africa’s dependency on foreign aid, a necessity or a burden?”

At the end of the debate competition, Clinical Sciences had 73.91 while Nursing had 77. The Faculty of Technology had 73.25 while the Faculty of Education had 79.91. The Faculty of Law had 77.58 while The Social Sciences had 67. ABH had 78.8 while Awo had 76.35. Bello Hall had 80.5 while Queen Idia Hall had 76.83. Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall had 75.5 while Queen Elizabeth II Hall had 71.16.

Bartholomew Samuel from the Faculty of Education won the award for the best speaker in the faculty round with 80.83 points, while the first speaker from Alexander Brown Hall, John Eriomala, was awarded the best speaker for the hall category with 83.33 points.

The Faculty of Clinical Sciences was awarded the best loser for the faculty category and Queen Idia Hall clinched the best loser for the hall category.
