AFAS Edge NESA in Tight Inter-Faculty Opener

By: Joshua Oyetoro
The defending champions, Faculty of Arts male football team, kicked off their Inter-Faculty Games 2025 campaign with a narrow but decisive 1–0 victory over the Faculty of Economics at the Old SUB Pitch.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams creating chances, but failing to find the breakthrough. The Economics number 10 was particularly impressive, dictating play and keeping AFAS midfielders on their toes, while AFAS forwards struggled to make the most of opportunities in front of goal.
However, the tide turned in the second half. AFAS began to assert themselves, and their persistence was rewarded with a well-worked move that found Eme inside the box. The defender made no mistake, slotting home the only goal of the game, and sending the defending champions into the lead.
Despite late pressure from Economics, AFAS defence stood firm to secure the win. With this result, Arts have set the tone for their title defence, signaling their intent to go all the way again in this year’s competition.
