CORRUPTION PUT NIGERIAN INSTITUTIONS IN STATE OF KWASHIORKOR, PROF. JAIYEOBA SAYS

Professor Adebola Jaiyeoba of the department of Educational Management has said that severe deprivation of funding as well as the effects of poor governance, politicization of appointment of teachers and unstable curriculum have left Nigerian institutions in a state of kwashiorkor.
Prof. Jaiyeoba said this recently while delivering the 448th inaugural lecture of the University of Ibadan titled, “Management: The key to institutional success” on behalf of her department at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.
According to her, functional and qualitative education is a condition to facilitating sound education. Thus, managers of education have a lot to do in saving it from the hands of corrupt practices.
She however reiterated that for institutional success to be achieved through management, the right man has to be put on the right job. In addition, she called for the need for good supervision. In her words, “Without good supervision, we cannot achieve educational goals.”
Present at the lecture were spouse of the lecturer and former Vice-Chanceloor, Ajayi Crowther University; Prof. K. Jaiyeoba, Emeritus Prof. PAI Obanya of the Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, principal officers of the university and others.
