The Faculty of Arts Legislative Council (FLC) on Friday, 19th October, 2018 at its sitting held at Room 40 approved the sum of #56, 485 as the budget for Association of Faculty of Arts Students Independent Electoral Committee (AFASIEC) for this session.

The budget approved budget covers for the whole electioneering process that has commenced following the lift of ban on 10th October, 2018.

Speaking after the budget was approved, the Speaker of the council, Rt. Hon. John Izuchukwu, enjoined the committee to be fair in its dealing and also ensure that credible candidates are the ones to be presented for the election.

In the same vein, the sum of #284, 130 was approved for this year’s Dean’s Games hitherto been known as the Dean’s Cup.

The decision to change the name of the competition was because it would now feature athletic events such as 4 X 4 Relay race, and 100 and 200 metres races alongside football which has dominated the competition for a very long time.

Explaining why he included the athletic events, Director of Sports, Muzamil Raji, said it was because the faculty would be 70 this year and there is a need to spice the competition up to include more sporting activities so many people can participate in the competition.

He noted also that there will be cash prizes and medals for winners at the competition ranging from #500 to #20,000.

Meanwhile, the FLC also approved the sum of#32, 500 as the administrative budget of the Council of Presidents and Secretaries (CPS) whilst also ordering the CPS to reschedule its earlier scheduled programme, Art in Arts, as one of the events that would come up during the association’s week, advising that the CPS should not be seen to be projecting the image of itself but rather that of the association as one of the germane organs.

Also at the sitting, the sum of #6,105 was approved for the Audit Commit for smooth running of its activities.
