The Catalan club ended a multi-season transfer saga by splashing out 120 million euros to land French and Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann. €120 million was his buy-out clause, and Barcelona was willing to pay it to get their man. Griezmann will join an already star-studded forward line of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, as well as Ousmane Dembele, and potentially Neymar, who is reportedly keen on a move back to Camp Nou.

However, the twist lies in the fact that Atletico are disputing the deal, their reason being that the deal falls €80m short of Griezmann’s release clause. According to the Madrid club, who recently added Portuguese wonderkid, Joao Felix, to their squad, and made Alvaro Morata’s deal permanent, Griezmann had agreed to make the move as far back as March, when his release clause had been €200m. It is yet to be seen whether or not they’ll legally pursue this course and milk Barcelona’s pockets more.
