Have you ever wondered why that particular guy or girl sits alone? Why he/she doesn’t linger after class to talk with the rest of the class? Why he/she doesn’t associate with anybody? You probably think they are proud right? Well, those people may not be what you have perceived them to be. They are simply loners.

A loner is someone who does not actively seek human interaction, who has no or very few friends. Some loners appear or behave oddly to others. There are many reasons for their solitude intentional or otherwise. Intentional reasons include being introverted, spiritual, mystic and religious considerations, or personal philosophies. Unintentional reasons involve being highly sensitive, shy, past trauma or events, or having various mental disorders.

Being a loner can be hard with no one to understand how hard it is to mingle with other people or have someone to talk to. Loners tend to be envious of other people who have friends to mingle with. Everyone needs their private time. At a certain point or the other, we are bound to be surrounded by people after you get out of that seclusion shell but loners just stay in the shell reluctant to make contact with others. Most people however assume that people who keep to themselves are proud. People therefore judge them from afar and are sometimes hostile to them. Why don’t we take a closer look at the loner and wonder why the person is always alone? Is he shy? Is she not comfortable with anyone? Is he having a problem? Find out.

It wouldn’t hurt you if you just say ‘hi’ to the loners around you. It wouldn’t cost you anything if you just try and have a conversation with that guy or lady sitting all by himself /herself in the class and you might just be surprised and get along well and smoothly like. Bring them out of their shells and you’ll see how they’ll blossom. It might not be easy though, because not all loners wants to be brought out of their shells but still, try to be friends with them.

Loners also, should try and get out of their shell. Don’t sit alone in the class, try and mingle with others especially your room mates and course mates, join any of the social clubs/organizations.It is part of everyone’s stage of life to have people that would spice up one’s life. It might be either good or bad but still lessons need to be learnt in life.

So, Loners, don’t shut out the world or you might just shut out opportunities.
