OAU Giants Defeat UI Pioneers

UI Pioneers were beaten by their counterparts, OAU Giants, in the round of 16 first-leg of the 2019 Higher Institutions Football League (HIFL) at OAU Sport Complex on Wednesday, 24 July 2019.

The University of Ibadan Pioneers got defeated by the Obafemi Awolowo University Giants for the second consecutive time in the recent history of the HIFL. The Giants were the Pioneers’ bane last season, knocking them out of the competition in a second-leg game that ended three-nil, after having played out a three-all draw in the first leg at the University of Ibadan.

The OAU Giants showed their superiority once more on their home ground, opening the score at the twelfth minute, and then adding a second from the penalty spot just seven minutes later. The second half ended goalless, leaving it two-nil at full-time.

The second leg will be played on the 7th of August, at Awo Stadium, University of Ibadan.
