UCJ UI ENDS BOOTCAMP TRAINING

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI) has recently completed her boot camp training session for presspersons.

The day, had the speakers, Mr. Adejumo Kabir and Mr. Micheal Olatunbosun, discussed on topics like; rhetoric, imagery, satire writing, ethics of journalism and how to become an outstanding journalist.

Mr. Micheal made some points and said “you shouldn’t be a journalist but an outstanding journalist”. He made it known that for one to be an outstanding journalist, one must be inquisitive, versatile, have an ability to create new from old, continue to learn and must be courageous.

Mr. Kabir also talked on the subjects of imagery, rhetoric and satire writing. Rhetoric is used to investigate how language is used to create meaning; imagery is used by a writer to paint a picture using words and phrases.

Mr. Kabir also gave a highlight on how to animate a story, which involves good writing, making impact on a story and also duplicating and syndicating your story. It is to be noted that credibility of the medium, capacity of the journalist and the type of government can deny a journalist of impact.

Mr. Kabir further talked on proof reading (the process of reviewing the final draft of a paper), editing (the stage of writing where an editor corrects and improves a write-up). Edition is the backbone of a published work, he pointed out.

He also listed the Ethics of journalism, which are: concerning one’s self with people, accuracy and fairness, avoidance of plagiarism, transparency, and shunning of fake news.

Finally, he mentioned the core element of journalism which involves: Truthfulness and accuracy, Verification; which is an interest of journalism sustainability, Independence and accountability.
