MUSIC REVIEW: MAYORKUN’s ” UP TO SOMETHING”
“Up to Something ” is Mayorkun’s third release for 2019, it came after his huge wins at the 2019 edition of the Headies Awards, where he won the awards for ” Best Pop Album” for his debut LP ” The Mayor of Lagos ” and ” Revelation of the year”.
Up to something is a great song that would get your body moving from wherever position you are. The beat is great and the lyrics are just right. It a song you can whine your waist to, twerk to or just make moves with.
The “Up to Something” crooner encourages women to know their true worth and appreciate themselves for who they are. It says women are supposed to understand and truly believe they are perfect in their tribal marks, kinky hair, albino and whatever shape they are in.
It says women do not need to fake foreign accents and use silicon to be accepted, they just need to realise their worth and be true to themselves.
Many Nigerian musicians have been accused of placing women at the base by using derogatory terms to describe women in their songs. ‘Up to something” has singled itself out by tackling body shaming and embracing women of different complexions, shapes, sizes and age.
The song is definitely a hit song wherever it is played, whether in clubs, parties, at home or even when cruising on the road. It is not an entirely loud song, it is a song that you can refer to as a faaji song which you can low-key vibe to even when you are sitting or working.
