A group called Poets in Nigeria (PIN) hosted student poets from various tertiary institutions to the mysterious suspended lake located in Ado-Awaye hill in Iseyin local government area of Oyo state, where the group marked the 2019 edition of Feast of Words.

Sir Eriata Oribabor, the president of Poets in Nigeria (PIN), while speaking with our correspondent said the event was the initiative of another group called Word Rhymes and Rhythm (WRR).

“Feast of Words was organised by WRR, but PIN is supporting it because we support creativity. Supporting creativity in young people is far better than in the older ones”.
“Feast of Words promotes every genre of Literature. They have been doing it for 5 years now. If you are there for literature, you are there for everything because Literature is life”.

Meanwhile, he noted that the choice of location is to pay homage to nature and let the government see the need to pay attention to tourism. He lamented the government has abandoned tourism and the people are missing out on the economic values therein.

“Nature is number one in all. What we are supposed to be doing as a nation is to promote our natural endowment. This lake is the only suspended lake in the world. Though, we read in paper that there are two suspended lakes, one in Colorado, but we have also learnt that that other one is not flowing so it is not a lake per say.

We don’t have a sense of tourism in this country. We have something that could bring economic benefit to this community and the country at large but the government support is not there. We need government, individual and corporate support. It is the people of this community that did the staircase leading up to the mountain”.

Meanwhile, members of AFAS Press joined poets from various institutions to mark the Feast of Words 2019.
