FLC APPROVES ELECTRONIC VOTING FOR UPCOMING AFAS ELECTION

The faculty of Arts Legislative Council (FLC) approves electronic system of voting for the association’s coming election.

This approval was made during the house first sitting for the year on Wednesday, 8th January, 2019.

It would be referred to that the newly approved system of voting contradicts the association’s constitution Article 35 (vi) (vii) which states that: “elections shall be an open-secret ballot. At the end of voting, the electoral committee shall open the ballot boxes, count the votes in the presence of each candidate’s polling agent and the results are announced immediately”.

The decision to, however, have an electronic system of voting by AFASIEC was considered by the house as an effectual upgrade to the process of election of in the faculty. In effect to this, the House approved N93, 360 for electoral activities in which a total amount of N45, 000 will be allotted to the e-voting system.

The speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Olumide Osinuga, in his remark to the AFASIEC chairsperson moved on to dwell on the House expectancy for a well- conducted election as this would be the highest amount ever approved for electoral activities.

“To whom much is given, much more is expected. I know you may be angry with the way the house has cut the budget but you should know that this is the highest the house has ever approved. That is, the house is investing more on election this year and anything other than success will not be tolerated”.
