UI GRADUATES FACULTY OF LAW STUDENTS AS OTHER FACULTIES BATTLE ASUU STRIKE

The University of Ibadan has commenced the 2020 Graduation and 72nd Foundation Day Ceremonies on the 14th of November, 2020,as earlier announced by the school management. This year’s convocation ceremony began with the graduation of students of the Faculty of Law, who ran a fast academic calendar in order to meet up with resumption for Law School.

In his convocation address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka advised graduands to “go all out to do exploits in any field you may find yourselves and thereby, project to the world, the endless opportunities and invaluable potentials entrenched in our great nation”.
The graduation ceremony will continue on the 16th and 17th of November, with the convocation of post graduate students.

Unfortunately, the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has hindered final year undergraduate students in other faculties from completing their program, as well as processing their clearance, thus preventing them from graduating. Since the university halted all academic activities on the 23rd of March as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the school is yet to reopen, worsened by the lingering ASUU strike.

This year, the institution will award 111 Diplomas (Nursing Tutors and Postgraduate), admit 412 graduands into First Degrees, 220 graduands into Master’s Degrees. 55 graduands into Doctor of Philosophy Degrees (Ph.D) of the University of Ibadan, and another 24 Ph.D graduands from the Pan African University/University of Ibadan.
