AFAS REVERSES ORDER ON PAYMENT OF DUES

The Association of Faculty of Arts Students has reversed the order on the compulsory payment of dues by freshmen. The adjustment was announced in a statement signed by the faculty president, Eniola Francis. While the basic due of two thousand five hundred naira(#2500) remains the only compulsory item, payment for all other items, which include ID cards, shirts, dinner and excursion are optional for all students of the association.Contrary to our earlier report that the order was reversed in compliance to the SU’s order which stated that ‘On no account should all dues be made compulsory for freshmen, especially. Only a basic due of not more than two thousand five hundred naira (# 2500) should be charged’, the president of the faculty has pointed that the reversal was a unanimous decision made by the Executive and the FLC and was authorized by the faculty management. Before the adjustment, payments for all items, asides excursion had been made compulsory for fresh students, while only the payment for basic dues was made compulsory for returning students. Payments for ID cards was not at any point made compulsory for returning students, as reported in our earlier report.
