AFASITE OF THE WEEK: Olalekan Ayobami, Orllybam.
In this interview, Olalekan Ayobami popularly Known as Orllybam speaks on his life a student a musician, and a producer.
AFAS PRESS: Tell us a bit about yourself
Orllybam: I’m Olalekan Ayobami popularly Known as Orllybam. I’m a 300 level student of the Department of English, the first and best department! Ade ori okin.
AFAS PRESS: So apart from schooling, what other things are you into?
Orllybam: I sing. I rap. I can produce. I’m a producer. I’m also a mixing Engineer. I needed to know bit of these things to reduce the cost of musical production. Music is getting expensive by the day. I also act and I’m a model.
AFAS PRESS: This is nice. You earlier introduced yourself with a nickname ‘Orllybam’, how did you get the name?
Orllybam: Lol. It is spiritual. My name is Olalekan Ayobami Olabisi. So the Orlly is from the two Olas while the bam is from Ayobami.
AFAS PRESS: Okay. Apart from all these, are there other things you do?
Orllybam: I’m also a student leader. Let me hype myself. I’m my number one hype man. I was elected as the deputy hall mayor, Sultan Bello Hall. A big shout out to all Bellites for believing in me. God bless all My Bello Blooders.
AFAS PRESS: How has it been then? Schooling, acting, singing and all that you do
Orllybam: It has been good. Na life be that.
AFAS PRESS: The things you do are very well but what made you choose to study English?
Orllybam: I chose ENGLISH because ENGLISH is the best. Aside from that, you can bring out other departments from ENGLISH. So being in English is like being in “Department of Arts” English is divided into language and literature. Theatre art, Classics, music, Yoruba, history, Philosophy are still embedded in ENGLISH and LITERATURE. Respect and shout out to all departments in the faculty of Arts. I see myself as a student of other departments as I have borrowed one or two courses there or will by God’s grace be borrowing from there.
AFAS PRESS: In all that you do, which do you love more or do you just have equal passion for all?
Orllybam: I have equal passion for all
AFAS PRESS: That’s good. Do you have any source of motivation?
Orllybam: Everything! Everyone! You granted me an interview. Isn’t that enough to motivate me?
AFAS PRESS: That’s great! What then pushes you and makes you not relent?
Orllybam: My personal Quote; “we don’t give up until we give up the ghost” (BAMISTS LEADER). Also, Live a good life. Do evil/bad to no body. Sing good music to make the world a better place.
AFAS PRESS: Bamist doesn’t seem to me like an English word, who are the Bamists?
Orllybam: The Bamists are the believers in my Philosophy of “good life and good music”. Bamist is a shortened form of “Orllybamist”.
AFAS PRESS: That’s fine. So when did you really start?
Orllybam: I’ve started quite early as an Observer. I’ve been composing songs from childhood. Now I’ve an album titled; AFRICAN KING out on all platforms.
AFAS PRESS: Great! What do you consider to be your highlights so far?
Orllybam: In my first semester at 100 level, I recorded a UI at 70 theme song with TOBAJ of Philosophy. Also, during 100 level 1st semester/break I recorded LOTW and dropped it. TOBAJ and I later performed it at AFAS DINNER that year.
AFAS PRESS: Alright. How do you promote your music?
Orllybam: Promoting music is quite expensive. I get to put them on all digital platforms.
AFAS PRESS: Alright. How many albums do you have now?
Orllybam: Just one. I will be dropping a single titled Eyele on May 2nd, this year.
AFAS PRESS: That’s great! Could you just give us a summary of your musical journey so far
Orllybam: After LOWT, I dropped OLD SOJA. LOVE was dropped when I was in 200 level. It was a hit as I performed it on every show I went to on campus. Fortunately, It gave me AFAS ARTISTE OF THE YEAR last session. Also, I dropped OLD SOJA, a single, during the lockdown and I dropped AFRICAN KING ALBUM on December 3 last year. On the New year’s day, I dropped Bubble Year Anthem which is on a blog and on audio Mack.
