As part of the 2019 NEEDS ASSESSMENT PROJECT, the Department of Music has commissioned her new departmental building. The SUB Foyer has now been converted and renovated as the new Department of Music. The building which had an impressive abundance of space, practice cubicles, classrooms, a concert hall, library, offices for academic and non-academic staff, toilets, was officially commissioned by the acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola. The commissioning also saw the launching of new equipment, to facilitate learning.


While expressing gratitude, the Head of Department, Dr. Samuel Ajose appreciated the efforts of the students and staff towards the successful commissioning. The Pioneer of the Department, Dr. Tolu Owoaje advised students on the proper use of the building and cautioned against defacing the walls.
While speaking with AFAS Press, the President of the Department, Olarinde Victor Adedamola expressed joy over the development. The Public Relations Officer of the department, Richard Elijah also shared the same feeling as he expressed “freedom is very underrated for some people, but in this new building, we have enough space to do a lot of things. Students can be more productive now”
The President of the Faculty, Eniola Francis, who is also a student of the department expressed that the new building is “a great plus to the faculty and I am even glad that it happened in my tenure. In the former building, we didn’t have a Concert Hall but now we can have a concert here”.
The commissioning had in attendance the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebola Babatunde Ekanola, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor K.O. Adebowale, Dean of the Faculty, Professor Afis Oladosu, Sub Dean of the Faculty, Dr. (Bar) Oke , former Dean of Faculty, Professor Ademola DaSylva, staff and students of the Department of Music.
