The Okigbo Poetry Club is set to hold its first meeting in the 2020/2021 session.
Before this announcement, the club had begun to call for new members in the University of Ibadan to be a part of the club. This was made known in a broadcast message that was first circulated on Friday, September 12.
Prior to this time, the Okigbo Poetry Club, which was known to be very prominent in the University of Ibadan and have commanded the interest of many poetry enthusiasts especially in the Faculty of Arts, has been inactive for a few years. This was owing to the low participation and lack of commitment on the part of the members. The club was also inactive for a year due to COVID-19.
In a chat with the new president of the Okigbo Poetry Club, Oluwabunmi Badru, she affirmed that the club is back on its feet again. She explained that plans have been put in place for activities that will ginger the creativity of the members, such as frequent gatherings, to keep the interest of the members aflame.
She also discussed the kind of members that are perfect fit for the club.
“Three members; experienced poets, those who want to learn to be better in poetry, and the ones who just want to hear the melody of poetry,” she said.
The first meeting of the club for the session has been scheduled to hold at the Gallery of the Faculty of Arts Large Lecture Theatre by 4pm on Friday, September 17.
