Afas Press Reporter wins Poetry Prize

Mahbubat Saludeen, a campus journalist with AFAS Press during the weekend emerged as the first Runner-up in the Nigerian Students Poetry Prize, an initiative of Poets in Nigeria.

The award ceremony which was held in Lagos saw Mahbubat emerged amongst other 7 finalists shortlisted for NSPP this year.

Reacting to this victory, Mahbubat explained that it came with an overwhelming feelings and expressed gratitude she got from a friend to apply.

“I was so excited, short of words because I never imagined that I was going to be one of the winners because it was my first time submitting for the competition. I never wanted to submit but a friend of mine in law told me to and I did. When I heard my name I was so exhilarated. It was almost unreal,” she said.

For finishing as the first runner-up, Mahbubat is to receive a cash prize worth of one hundred and fifty thousand naira and a poetry anthology as well.
