BREAKING: AFAS Sports’ Director Impeached, CPS to conduct bye-elections, President to look into the office

Following the allegations of negligence of constitutional duties and unaccountability levied against the AFAS Sports’ Director, Alawiye Isreal, the AFAS Faculty Legislative Council has on Saturday, 25th of March 2023 impeached the Sports Director in a Plenary that was held in Room 32, Faculty of Arts.


The decision for the impeachment was reached after a secret ballot voting process was conducted involving the fifteen members present in the house excluding the speaker. The outcome of the vote had 12 members in support of the impeachment while 3 members opposed the impeachment.


Following the Sports Director’s inability to present any document to the audit committee concerning the money expended on sports day of the fresher’s orientation, the House stated that the grounds for the impeachment was for negligence of duty and unaccountability owing to the undertaking the Sports’ Director signed on Thursday, 15th of December, 2022.


According to the Speaker, Hon Akindejoye, He stated that “This day Saturday 25th of March, 2023 according to the Chapter 7, article 46, section B(i) of the AFAS constitution, the Sports Director, having been found guilty of negligence of his constitutional duties and unaccountability owning to the previously signed undertaking is hereby relieved of his duty.


He announced that the house will forward a letter to the CPS on the vacancy of the position and conduction of a bye election. He further stated that the AFAS President, Hon. Akinyoola Emmanuel, shall look into the office between now and when a bye-election is conducted according to Article 38(5) of the constitution.
