BREAKING: AFAS Executive Council Constitutes Electoral Committee

The Executive Council, Association of Faculty of Art Students has on Thursday, July 6, 2023 constituted a thirteen-personed Electoral Committee, whose members were nominated by all Departmental Presidents, to oversee the conduct of 2021/2022 election activities of the Association.

In a copy of the letter, titled “Introduction of Nominees for AFAS Electoral Committee 2021/2022 Academic Session As Submitted By Departmental Presidents”, which was addressed to the Staff Adviser, Dr. Ajayi, the memo detailed nominees, which will organize, undertake and supervise the electoral activities of the Association.

Subsequent to an acknowledgement of the letter by the Association’s Staff Adviser, members which will constitute the Electoral Committee are; Sulaimon Mikail (Philosophy), Elufisan Ifeoluwa (Linguistics), Lasisi Deborah (Religious Studies), Obayomi Olawunmi (Music), Aduwo Ayodele (AFAS PRESS), Nwabeke Amaka (CLA), Bolaji Suliat (Arabic & Islamic Studies), Adigun Olatunji (Classics), Aguoru Toluwalase (English Language), Adeoye Erioluwa (Anthropology & Archaeology), Raji Hassanat (History), Oluwayori Ayokunumi (European Studies), and Boluwatife Osikoya (Theatre Arts).

By implication and in accordance to Chapter 8, Article 41 of the AFAS Constitution, the newly constituted Electoral Committee “shall have the power to fix the fee for nomination of forms, process returned nomination forms, fix the date for and supervise the presentation of manifestoes, draft rules and regulation for the conduct of a free and fair election, and to ultimately present Executives-elect for swearing-in.”

Speaking with AFAS PRESS moments after the constitution of the committee, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Sulaimon Mikail, assured students that the Committee, being the steering body for the conduct of the long-awaited election, will do its best in organising, undertaking, and supervising the Association’s election without prejudice.

In his charge to students across all departments in the faculty, Sulaimon Mikail emphasized on the need for students to actively participate in the electoral activities of the faculty as it unfolds.

“As we embark on this journey of electing our executives, I want to emphasize the importance of every Afasite involvement and the power that lies with each to shape the future of our Association”, he said.
