NUESA UI Organises Leadership and Public Speaking Summit

Nigerian Universities Education Students’ Association (NUESA),
University of Ibadan Chapter, organised a Leadership and Public Speaking Summit on October 14, 2023, at the Faculty Large Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Education. The event tagged “Innate Potential” was geared towards inculcating the culture of public speaking and leadership in the students.
In his welcome address, the President of the Faculty of Education, Comrade Sakariyau Waris Ajibola (Hon. Gucci), stated that good communication and public speaking skills are prerequisite to becoming a good leader.
Also, Comrade Ajibola emphasized that time management is essential in leadership in which he acknowledged the first six students to arrive at the event.
While he was addressing the attendees, the Team Lead of Civic Hive, Mr Joseph Amenaghawon maintained that leadership is based on self-awareness and confidence is built overtime.
“Self leadership is important in public speaking, hence, participants should invest in leading themselves as fluency does not equate to intelligence.”
Also, he advised that students should leverage on learning from others and imbibe the spirit of consistency.
“Studying and learning from others are inevitable tools to getting better at speaking whilst not downgrading the power of practice to increase expertise in public speaking.”
Miss Ayomide Ladipo, the Head of Tracka, a stem of BudgIT, stated that project monitoring and evaluation are key ways of playing a part of an active citizen and also encouraged students to wisely hold leaders accountable with the official information on the Tech-Tools outlined.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Tobi Olaitan, Program Coordinator, S.M.I.L.E, charged participants to leverage on education, experience and expertise as life is cumulative and knowledge gives one an edge.
