UI FRSC Organizes Road Safety Week

University of Ibadan Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals, Unit 47, on Monday, the 22nd of January, 2024, organised the Road Safety Week. The unit, comprising professors, top-ranking administrators, other academic staff, and junior workers as members, is saddled with the responsibility of maintaining sanity and safety within and near the campus.


In his opening speech, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of the University, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, who spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, stated that the University prioritizes safety which underlined the management’s commitment towards ensuring an environment free from accident.


Professor Olapegba said that the University is making efforts within the available resources to maintain its road network. He also urged members of the University community to cooperate with Road Safety Officers, thereby ensuring the personal safety of individuals and other road users. Moreover, he pledged support to the Special Marshals in controlling traffic rule violations on campus.


In a goodwill message from the State Coordinator of the Special Marshals Unit of the Federal Road Safety Commission, delivered by the Deputy State Coordinator, Reverend Joshua Adeniji, he noted that the state was pleased to be part of the activities of Unit 47, thereby assuring them of their total support.


According to the Coordinator of the UI Unit 47, Professor O. Fagbola, he gave an assurance that every activity is being carried out in the interest of the university community.


A public enlightenment card, containing a list of recurrent traffic offences on campus, was distributed to encourage members of the University community to desist from committing traffic offences and to maintain the safety of other road users.
