UI Gears to Implement E-learning Strategic Plans

The University of Ibadan has unveiled its plan to implement an e-learning strategic vision and policy on virtual and blended learning. This was disclosed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, in a one-day strategic planning workshop.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the University had earlier approved the strategic vision to extend the frontiers of learning by providing research-driven and excellent e-learning activities, and e-assessment that will equip the students.

Stating that virtual learning has come to stay, the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Dr Adedoyin Aguoru, affirmed that institutions across Nigeria and West Africa have fully embraced virtual and blended learning as a better way of teaching and learning in the 21st century.

According to Professor Ayotola Aremu, the head of the UI e-learning committee, the training was organised for the newly employed teaching staff of the University.

The committee has designed a six-week work plan, starting with engaging activities like introductory videos in the first week, course guides on every topic, containing the corresponding objectives and resources, and in the sixth week, there would be formative assessments conducted through short quizzes.

Also, the facilitators of this initiative would include forty-nine e-coaches, the DBL4 team, and the NOUN group who had participated brilliantly, alongside other eleven institutions in Africa, in in-depth and professional forms of virtual and blended learning.
