What to Expect in the Upcoming Dean’s Cup Tournament

With the Faculty of Arts Dean’s Cup Tournament proposed to begin in less than a month’s time, there are certain things and teams to look out for. The defending champions, Department of Philosophy and Department of European Studies, in the male and female category respectively, are no doubt phenomenal teams. But will they be able to defend their trophies?

First, we expect to see football being the only outdoor event in this session’s tournament. The female category has teams like CLA, Archaeology and Anthropology, and European Studies being strong contenders for the Dean’s Cup. The defending champions with a strong-footer like Solace have a shot at the cup. However, Archaeology and Anthropology and CLA have always put up a good fight for the cup in past seasons.

In the male category, a look in retrospect lets us see teams like Archeology and Anthropology, Classics, Philosophy, Arabic and Islamic Studies being strong teams and the audience’s favourites. But will they all bring their A game this season?

AFAS Press spoke with a student in the faculty to hear his thoughts on the upcoming tournament. Precious from the Department of Theatre Arts said “although Archaeology seems to be a good contender, Philosophy has the players and strength to defend their trophy. I heard they have been winners about six times in seven sessions now. They are really good, so they have a shot.” he said.

Will the Dean’s Cup tournament witness other teams play better than these teams known for winning, or is it going to be a replay of what has always been?
