International Yoruba Students Begin Acculturation Programme in UI

Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, received ten (10) American Students for the 2024 Yoruba Group Project Abroad (YGPA) on a courtesy visit to his office as they begin their acculturation programme.

Prof. Adebowale expressed his joy to the students for making a profitable attempt in learning to speak the Yoruba Language, and advised that they document their experiences, add patience to their virtue in the attempt to gain adequate knowledge of the Yoruba Language.

The Vice-Chancellor admonished the instructors to effectively impart the students a deep knowledge of Yoruba especially the proverbs and idiomatic expressions, while urging the Yoruba Language Centre to ensure that the students explore the City of Ibadan and its cultural heritage.

The acculturation programme was facilitated by the Yoruba Language Centre, University of Ibadan and Fulbright Hay Yoruba Group Project Abroad according to the Director of the Yoruba Language Centre, Prof. Philip Adedotun Ogundeji and will span for eight weeks.

Professor Ogundeji asserted that students from different institutions across the globe visit the University of Ibadan annually for the acculturation programme while stressing that the current students are lodged with families who will get them accustomed to Yoruba Language and culture.
