CHIVIDO’24: President General Among the Weddings

After the longgggg, long long-term relationship between internet and international music sensation, David Adedeji Adeleke, and chef model, Chioma Avril Rowland (Davido and Chef Chi), both now fondly called CHIVIDO, finally tie the knot in the city of Lagos.

Having spent so many years as a girlfriend, some more years as fiance and baby mama, there are mixed reactions to their final union. Some female fans, or perhaps more properly called fanatics, snidely comment that Chioma has only been moved from an understanding girlfriend to an understanding wife. This comment stems from their bad days witnessed by the world on the internet as a result of Davido’s alleged escapades with his other baby mamas and some other women.

Others also remark crudely that the wedding is only compensation for the loss of their first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke. This was rebuffed by commenting on how strong the couple have been following the death of their son, especially ChefChi, now officially Chioma Adeleke, who has a tattoo of her late son’s insignia boldly on her. Regardless, their eventual wedding, following the proposal in 2019, has completed the Assurance cycle and will remain an internet buzz for a long time.

All these are facts. My business is to tell you the lengths you have to go to meet even one-tenth of their wedding and its ceremony. In short, there are weddings and there are rich people’s weddings. And even among the rich weddings, CHIVIDO is the president general among all weddings.

Here’s why:

Obi Cubana is reported to have spent about 7 million naira on his dress for their wedding. Wait first. Let me reiterate that.

7 million naira!!!

Is that not the same amount other people spend on their own entire wedding? Or even less? Abi eyes dey pain me ni? This is not to mention the lineup of makeup, jewellery, and dresses donned by female celebrities and artists. You’d almost think it’s an award event. With the buzz, any celebrity that didn’t attend the wedding or drop hot pictures has officially lost their celebrity status. What should we celebrate if they missed CHIVIDO’24?

Another allegation is that all invited guests’ packages include a  Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, allegedly to ensure that no invited guest takes blurry pictures or videos. One netizen revealed his package with the sleek gift and it has led people to believe that other invited guests got the same package. It’s also to promote the Samsung brand since Davido is an ambassador. Whatever the reason, my own question is, when did we move from giving wedding guests that buy ankara, basket and soap, to giving them phones? Not just any phone, one that is worth about 1.6 million naira? I’m in dismay and absolutely flabbergasted. So what will the guest give in return as a wedding gift? I’m blocking that thought from my head in order not to die of depression.

People are not done talking about that one before Davido brought, not one but two birds, from his pocket. Forget how he gave the gifts and focus on the gifts he gave. Two brand new, what we call tear rubber or oshara, cars. One is a 2024 GAC GN8 and the other is allegedly a Trumpchi M8, rumoured to still carry the unreleased status. But even though and still yet, is it not between yam and the Bible that normal brides pick from? The bar has not just been raised, it has been broken.

If you thought that’s the end, think again, because Olamide Baddoo decided to surprise the couple with a performance. Performance others pay for, Chivido got for free. It’s nobody’s business if Wizkid only “lol’ed” at the wedding announcement. That detail is insignificant. There’s nothing my eyes have not seen since their wedding announcement and planning began.

Writing this is making me think about my life, so let me just make one more point. In this life, have money. Just have money. Have bastard money so that they will not send you slave’s work and expect you to carry it out like a son (proverb to be read in Yoruba). Chioma Avril Rowland is from Owerri, Imo State, most probably from one village there, if traced properly. But nobody told Davido that according to culture, the wedding is done in the wife’s hometown. Again, have money, so you won’t have to cross seven rivers and seven seas just to marry a wife. Some cultures and traditions are not meant for rich people.

Amidst all these, some people are in one corner of their thatched-roof rooms insisting Chef Chi, now Chioma Adeleke, is “just going to become an understanding wife.” We are patiently waiting for your wedding. Better for you, join the wagon of online in-laws to drink chivita as updates are being dropped on CHIVIDO. Don’t hate, yours will come. It may not just be as grand.

My mouth is bad? Okay, o. Updates are still dropping and I’ve left you behind.
