The highly anticipated final match between MBBS and IPE, on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Old football pitch, SUB ended in victory for the MBBS team.

In the early minutes of the first half, the game was played at a moderate pace, with both teams being conservative in their approach. However, as the game wore on, it became interesting, with a midfield battle that could neither break the defense line of both teams nor their nets. Though the two teams tried to get one over the other in the first half, it could only end in a stalemate.

The second half started on a much brighter note. It took less than 2 minutes for the Industrial Petroleum Engineering (IPE) team to open the scoreboard. MVP of the tournament, Pius, sent a Rabona-styled pass to the No. 7 of the IPE team, who deftly beat his marker with a shrug of the shoulder before tapping to the far right corner of the post, leaving the onrushing goalkeeper with no chance to clear the ball to safety.

As the game went on, the MBBS team tried to level the scoreline through chances of their own, the most prominent being Karbon’s scissors kick that hit the head of an onrushing IPE defender with the goal wide open. The MBBS team was not to be denied for long, as a deflected shot was latched into the net by the MBBS No. 9, who was just subbed into the game, making the scoreline 1-1.

With few chances and offside calls towards the dying minutes of the game, the referee blew the final whistle, taking the game to a penalty shootout. The Ibadan Medicine boys came out on top in the penalty shootout, beating the Industrial Petroleum Engineering team 5-4 to seal the gold medals of Seals Cup 2024.
