Sigma Club Set To Hold Another Edition Of Football Tournament

The Sigma Club UI has announced plans to hold another edition of the Sigma Chief’s football tournament from the  18th of November to 29th.

This was revealed in a press conference held by the club’s sport committee at the UI’SU SRC chamber on Friday, 8th of November.

Afolabi Gideon, the head of the Sigma sports committee, while addressing the pressmen, explained the processes for the tournament. ” The tournament is going to commence on November 18th and it will end on November 29th with all matches taking place at the Sub old pitch,

“The format of the tournament is going to be from the round of 16 to the final and it’s going to be a straight knockout.No second leg for this edition.

“This year’s edition will accommodate only 16 teams for both the male and female category. A male team is expected to register a maximum of 18 players while a female is expected to register a maximum of 10 players,” he added.

It’s a format where students are allowed to pick their teams and a winner takes all cash prizes. ” It’s a pick-your-team process for both the male and female category. Also, the female teams register with their department teams.” Afolabi added further.

Each team has to comprise at least 4 faculties in the university and at most 50 percent from a faculty.

Among the requirements for the tournament include a valid school ID card for registered students, uniformed jersey and hose, shin guards for all players, Jaja card.

“The aim of this is to unite both the students from different facilities and departments in the university of Ibadan and bring them together in one space,” he added.
