AFAS Independent Electoral College Releases Screening Result for AFAS Bye-Election

In an effort to fill some vacant executive positions in the Association of Faculty of Arts Students, the electoral college on Tuesday November 2 2024 released the results of a screening exercise for the candidates.

The screening exercise held at Room 71, Faculty of Arts, commenced at 3:00pm where the different candidates vying for the vacant positions presented their manifestos before the electoral college for scrutiny and grading.

According to the chairman of the electoral college, Oziegbe Kehinde Michael, a 400-level student of the department of Religious Studies, he stated that necessary measures were put in place for the success of the exercise.

“Myself and the members of the electoral college tried our best in order to make sure that the screening was a free and fair one. And we made sure that we were not so strict on every individual that was participating”.

“We put all our best in the screening process and we made sure everything went the way we planned”. He said

Speaking on the process of the exercise, he said “we had a score sheet where every member of the electoral can record what they feel about the punctuality, composition of the candidates, and the feasibility of their plans”

“We as well try to let the candidates understand that they have limited time to achieve all their aims and goals in which some of them were able to convince the electoral college”.

According to the result of the exercise,Jane Oshotse, Agbaje Rebecca, and Ojeyinka Emmanuel qualified in the screening process with 71.1, 60.6, and 54 scores respectively, qualified to contest for the position of the Vice President. Olatunbosun Opeyemi and Raji Barakat who had 49 and 47.4 were disqualified from the race.

For the candidates vying for the position of the Director of Sports, Only Omonyegue Elijah who had 57 and Folarin Emmanuel with 75 qualified to run for the position. Abdulganiy Sodiq who had 24.1 lost his bid. Also, Praise Bamiduro, the only candidate for the position of the Financial Secretary, qualified in the screening exercise.

Meanwhile, the election is scheduled to be held today and the inauguration will take place before the end of this week.

“The election will be today by 10:00am. Hopefully after the election, the candidates that emerge will be inaugurated this week and they will assume office this week as well.”

However, he decried the manner of dressing of some candidates as they failed to dress formally.
