BREAKING: AFAS Executive-Elects Inauguration Scuttled As Mojuba Objected Electoral Process

In a new twist of development, fresh controversies have erupted as scheduled inauguration of the newly elected AFAS executives failed to hold today as the president of the association, Olamilekan Adeniyi “Mojuba”, objected the electoral process that produced the executives.

Recalled that following the proclamation of the faculty management through the then staff adviser, Late Dr Ajayi, that the Council of Presidents and Secretaries (CPS) has been scrapped and no longer recognized as an arm of AFAS, the Faculty Legislative Council (FLC) has constituted an electoral college consisting of a representative from all the twelve (12) departments in the faculty, a press representative and two members of the FLC of which only the 12 representatives from the departments are eligible to vote.

The electoral college headed by Kehinde Oziegbe, a 400-level student of Religious Studies, screened the candidates to fill the vacant positions of Vice President, Sports Director and Financial Secretary of which Jane Oshotse, Folarin Emmanuel and Praise Bamiduro emerged the winners for the positions respectively.

However, during the scheduled inauguration of the executive-elects today at the office of the faculty’s sub-dean, Dr O. O. Berekiah, the inauguration ended in deadlock as AFAS President, Olamilekan Adeniyi “Mojuba” cited constitutional irregularities in the electoral process.

When reached by AFAS Press, Mojuba stated that he did not object the inauguration of the “acclaimed executive-elects”, “Who am I to order the management not to inaugurate them?, he asked rhetorically.

“Like I said earlier, it is not my opinion or the management’s opinion that the process of the election isn’t constitutional,”

“I answered only questions that I was asked which the aforementioned was my response and having heard that, the SUB Dean said he will have to verify himself so that we can have proper documentation on everything that guide us as an association to tame any further confusion in the future,” Said the president.

Speaking to AFAS Press, a source present at the botched inauguration who chooses to be anonymous said the president, despite saying repeatedly that he has no personal interest in the issue, is playing politics with the welfare of AFASites. “Instead of paying attention to getting these positions filled so AFASites can be better served, he is raising issues when there is none,” the source said.

“Mojuba keep hammering on the issue of CPS which is nonexistent and he is in the know because he was present when the late Dr Ajayi said that then. He can also see that the FLC is in the process of effecting that proclamation in the constitutional, bringing it up at the point of inauguration is cheap politics unworthy from a leader. What every well meaning AFASites should be concerned about is filling up these vacant positions to improve the state of things in the faculty,” they continue.

“He also brought up the issue of CGPA, the constitution requires 3.5 CGPA to contest for executive position, however, that is unrealistic now because we don’t use 7 point CGPA again, the electoral college had to use their intuition to arrive at the benchmark used for the election, he clearly has no case to do that, he just love controversy,” the source concluded.

AFAS Press also gathered that there has been rumors that the current Team New Era executives are opposed to the idea of new members joining the executive council and are against the executive-elects’ emergence.
