“Super 4 will surely hold” Folarin, AFAS Sports Director Says

In this interview with AFAS Press Correspondent, Adekunle Azeez, the newly elected  AFAS Sports Director, Folarin Emmanuel Obatomiwa shared his plans and vision for sporting events in the Faculty this semester.

AFAS Press: Congratulations on being elected as the new AFAS Sports Director, can you introduce yourself please?

Sport Director: I am Folarin Emmanuel Obatomiwa popularly known as Poseidon. I’m a final year student of Religious Studies.

AFAS Press: What inspired you to run for the post of Sport Director?

Sport Director: Well, I’ve been a lover of sport since I was young, I was the game prefect In my secondary school and been in the faculty of art with no sports director. I can’t watch what I love go into extinction.

AFAS Press: Do you mean if no Sports director had been elected, sports in the Faculty would go into extinction?

Sport Director: No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m just saying I can’t allow the sport sector to be handled anyhow while I’m still an undergraduate. I want to do everything to continue the stability we’ve always had when it comes to sport.

AFAS Press: Some people would say people go into official post to fill up their CV, is that so with you?

Sport Director: Well to some people yes, but to me that’s a no. Like I said, I was the sports prefect in my secondary school and I’ve already organised some matches inside school without considering CV, I’m just doing it because it’s what I love.

AFAS Press: Before becoming the sport director, did you participate in any sport within the Faculty?

Sport Director: Yeah I played football for my department, as a matter of fact I’m their highest goal scorer and I have the highest assist.

AFAS Press: Apart from playing football, what other sport did you get involved in?

Sport Director: Table tennis, that’s another sport I’m also good at.

AFAS Press: What are your plans and vision for sporting activities this semester?

Sport Director: Well I plan to introduce some games to the Deans cup, like table tennis, draught games, chess, and also if time permits I would like to introduce inter-level competition.

AFAS Press: By not mentioning Super 4, does this mean there’s a possibility that it will not hold?

Sport Director: Super 4 is a competition on its own, so I only mentioned what might actually come with deans cup. So super 4 will surely hold.

AFAS Press: How do you plan to secure funding or sponsorships for these competitions?

AFAS Director: Through alumni, I plan to write to different firms and organizations too.

AFAS Press: Football has been the most dominant sport in the Faculty, What plan do you have for other sports?

Sport Director: Like I said I would like to add Table tennis, draught, chess to the Deans cup also.

AFAS Press: Looking at the apathy students sometimes have towards sport, how do you plan to encourage more AFASites to get involved in sports, especially those who might not have participated before?

Sport Director: We will try as much as possible to really publicise the competition earlier and Introduce give away during different matches.

AFAS Press: How will you ensure that the students become aware of all sports related events and opportunities?

Sport Director: There will be a committee group that will comprise students from every department, there, I will pass information across and also there’s always a banter group.

AFAS Press: What did you think will be your biggest challenge as a sport director, and how do you plan to overcome it?

Sport Director: Well I can’t predict yet because I plan to cross all my T’s and dot all my i’s, so if need arise i and my committee will know how to tackle it. However,  i plan to make it a memorable one.

AFAS Press:: What legacy did you hope to leave at the end of your tenure?

Sport Director: i want to be a pacesetter where others coming behind me won’t have a choice than to do more.

AFAS Press: Your parting words to AFASites as they look forward to the beginning of sporting events in the Faculty?

Sport Director: This is another opportunity to put their name in the history books of their respective department, and It is another chance for everyone to carve a niche for themselves in any sport of their choosing.
