UI Announces Closure of Halls of Residence, Arranges Temporary Accommodation

In an internal memorandum dated March 7, 2025, from the Dean of Students, the University of Ibadan management announced the official closure of all halls of residence, effective Wednesday, March 26, 2025, following the conclusion of the academic session.

According to the memorandum, “all student must vacate the halls of residence with their belongings latest by 06:00 pm.”

However, for students participating in industrial training, teaching practice, practical training, and other fieldwork, temporary accommodation has been provided in Kenneth Mellanby Hall and Queen Elizabeth II Hall.

To be a beneficiary, interested students are required to pay a daily fee of three hundred naira to the microfinance bank between March 27 and April 11, 2025.

“Interested students should obtain Authority to pay slip at Lodgings unit, Student Affairs Division and pay the approved sum of Three hundred naira per day to the Microfinance Bank, University of Ibadan and change teller to receipt at Treasury Unit, Bursary, from Thursday, 27 March to Friday 11 April, 2025 (16 days),” the memorandum reads.

The management also advised students to adhere to the directives with warning that any student found “in the halls of residence after the deadline will face disciplinary actions.”

Postgraduate students are not exempted, although they are only required to vacate their halls during the fumigation exercise.

The memorandum is to be distributed to all hall wardens, with copied recipients including the Vice-Chancellor, DVC (Academics), DVC (Administrative), DVC (RISP), and others.
