The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ibadan has issued a statement addressing the Federal High Court’s order for the temporary reinstatement of Nice Linus today 29, March, 2025. While affirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law, the SRC emphasised that due process must be followed before her reinstatement is recognized.

Despite receiving a letter from Nice Linus dated March 28, 2025, the SRC outlined three key requirements— “duly elected and properly sworn in by the University of Ibadan management; issuance of an oath form by the University of Ibadan management, signed by Nice Linus; receipt of an internal memorandum from the university management notifying the Council of her swearing-in and assumption of office.”—for her reinstatement as an Honourable Member and Majority Leader representing the Obafemi Awolowo Hall Constituency. Consequently, she will not be added to the official group of the U.I. SRC 12th Assembly at this time.

In addition, the SRC clarified that Nice Linus was not removed from the 12th Assembly’s official group by the current Council. Rather, she “was removed from the Transition Group by the Immediate Past Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathias Opegbemi Busoye, based on an internal memorandum from university management.”

The Council further underscored that, “an injunction is not equivalent to a State of Emergency, which allows government actions to bypass legal processes. Instead, an injunction ensures that due process is followed in implementing a court order.”

The SRC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and following established university procedures. It advised Nice Linus to engage with the appropriate authorities to facilitate her recognition as a member of the Council.
