The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has officially announced the suspension of the planned physical demonstration originally scheduled for Wednesday, 23rd April, 2025, following the suspension of the strike by the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN)

In a statement signed by the UI’SU President, Covenant Odedele and General Secretary, Segun Olowu, the Union expressed deep appreciation to students for their patience and resilience throughout the over 120 days of the strike, which had significant academic and emotional impact on the clinical students.

The Union emphasised that it was at the forefront of salvaging the situation through consistent and deliberate stakeholder engagements, multiple press releases, media demonstrations, and the consideration of mobilisation actions aimed at bringing the crisis to an end.

“While it may have taken longer than expected, we are glad that we are finally at the end,” the statement reads in part.

The statement also reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to defending students’ interests and assured students that the Union remains well-positioned to represent them effectively.
