AFAS Electoral College to Remain in Action

During its first physical plenary sitting on Friday, May 2, the Association of Faculty of Arts Students Faculty Legislative Council (AFAS FLC) has put a hold on dissolving the AFAS Electoral College for a week in order to accommodate a second by-election for the position of the Director of Social and Welfare services.

This came after the chairman of the AFAS Electoral College gave the report of the recently concluded by-election, which was accepted by the House.

To allow for more participation,the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Inioluwa made a suggestion that there should be another one-week window for the sales of form to accommodate aspirants for the position of the Director of Welfare and Social Services and for the office to be left vacant if no one showed interest. This followed a motion by Hon. Abdullahi from Arabic and Islamic Studies Constituency and was seconded by Hon. Babatunde from Classics Constituency.

Recall that, during the recently concluded by-election, the candidate for the position of the Director of Social and Welfare Services was disqualified due to his incompetency, while the candidates for the position of the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary qualified and were elected into their respective offices.

While the electoral college is yet to refund the revenue accrued from the sales of form, the college will put out a notification of sales of form today to kick-start another electioneering process.
