THERE IS A RAMPAGING INFLUENCE OF ICT ON THE USE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Professor Emmanuel Taiwo Oladipo Babalola from Obafemi Awolowo University stated that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has greatly influenced the use of English Language. He said this at the English Language Clinic which held on Monday, 5th of August, 2019, at the Faculty of Arts Large Lecture Theatre.
While speaking on the topic: What is Correct English? Communicability, Grammaticality, Acceptability and Elegance, the guest speaker. He described how people prefer to leave the computer to correct their grammatical errors, without making effort themselves. He also spoke extensively on the use of SMS language and capitalisation.
He went further to assert that good communicative ability is what everyone should possess because it sets them apart.
The programme had in attendance past and present Deans of Faculties, professors, lecturers as well as students from various departments. The programme was anchored by Dr. Demola Lewis of the Linguistics department and Dr. Doyin Aguoru of the Department of English.
