FLC CONSIDERS APPROVAL OF 2ND BATCH OF ID CARD INAPPROPRIATE, DOES IT BASED ON MANAGEMENT APPEAL

The Faculty of Arts legislative council (FLC) has approved the budget for the second batch of ID card following appeals from the faculty management.

A sitting to consider the budget was called for by 6pm on Friday, 4th of October, 2019.

According to the speaker, Hon. Peter Olagunju, the budget which was sent at a time exams had begun in the faculty, was forestalled for proper consideration by a larger legislative house.

The executive had, however, gone on to pass a letter to the house on the delay, emphatically stating that the house was violating chapter five, article 19 (iii) of the faculty constitution and were thereby delaying the smooth production of ID cards for the members of the association.

The speaker, in response to this, stated that the executive had only done the unneeded by sending a letter of reminder to the house copying both the faculty Sub-Dean and the Staff Adviser— a move which according to him was a ploy to force the house to approve the budget.

“This is not even something that should be brought up for discussion. By copying the Sub-Dean, it meant that the president was trying to boycott the process of coming back to the house to give a report on the first identity card which he himself had promised to bring. This was therefore a ploy by him to get the FLC to approve the second budget”.

He adds that the president had even presented a budget without a proposal for the ID cards on his initial appearance for it but the house had gone ahead to approve it hoping that the president would do so upon his report.

The speaker, however, got a call from the Sub-Dean two days ago asking why the budget for the ID card was not approved. He responded by explaining to the sub-dean that the ID cards were in batches and they had already approved the first batch also filling him in on the whole proposal and report issue. The Sub-Dean however pleaded with him to find a way to approve the second batch of the budget to ensure that things are done on time.

The faculty president, Daniel Anagwaonye,  on the other hand, had appeared to be oblivious to the intended reports and proposal that the house had claimed he promised to bring when asked by the press. He stated that the house had only demanded for a sample of the ID cards during the presentation of the first budget.

He adds that he was disappointed that the speaker had not mentioned the proposal or the report while tendering the second ID card budget.

He said: “It is quite unfortunate that the speaker could not tell me that he needed the proposal when I sent the budget which had been with them for four weeks. Being quiet about the things he needed for the approval of the budget was not fair enough because I called him more than two or three times and he did not say anything about the proposal or the reports”.
