SUPER EAGLES SET TO BEGIN AFCON QUALIFIERS

The team has begun preparations for the 2021 African Cup of Nations, with the first and second rounds of qualifying games coming up this international break.

 

The Super Eagles play first against Benin in Uyo on Wednesday, before travelling south to Maseru to meet Lesotho for their second group game. Expectations are that the team will qualify as quickly as possible, avoiding the intense calculations that have for long been the hallmark of Nigerian senior football.

 

Fourteen players first arrived and trained at the team’s Ibom Meridien hotel on Monday evening before the general group session at Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Tuesday evening.The players:

 

Goalkeepers: Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi and Maduka Okoye.

Defenders: Kenneth Omeruo, William Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Ola Aina, Jamilu Collins, Ifeanyi Anaemena and Semi Ajayi.

 

Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Ramon Azeez, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Abdullahi Shehu, Mikel Agu, and Joe Aribo.

 

Forwards: Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, and Emmanuel Dennis.
