In the past few weeks many students and parents have expressed their views on the virtual class.To many people, the virtual class is a good idea, but Nigerian universities are not just ready for it especially the first and the best!
You might want to argue that few universities are coping, but it is not just working for us here.
I have heard a lot from fellow students and I have experienced a lot of mental fatigue myself.
To start with, many of us can’t even log into the learning platform. Some students even have problems with their email. To make matters worse, many of us don’t even understand what is happening on the platform.
Lecturers don’t have internet access in their office.The issue of data has not been resolved. A lecturer tried to hold a class but it was a disaster. He could not interact with the students as expected and this is a practical course.
A friend in education tried to attend a class but could not even concentrate as a result of the background noise.
Not only that, what happens to those who don’t have smart phones? What happens to those of us who don’t have computersor laptops and can’t access some things on our phones?
And then again, what happens when we don’t have power supply? We have not had light in Agbowo since Friday. How do we charge our phones and attend classes.
What do you want me to do when I am in a class and my phone started malfunctioning as a result of overheating? What do I do when I can’t log into a class because it has rained and there is no network? What do I do when I can’t subscribe for internet access and log into my classes? What do I do when my parents can’t afford my data subscription fee for every day?
We don’t mind staying outside classes and observing COVID-19protocol. We don’t even mind being 40 in a 200 capacity lecture theatre. Please let’s just return to physical classes like other universities!
