QUEEN MOTHER
One day when I feel like Adiche,
I will tell you the story of my mother
Wrapped in beautiful colours of her becoming, my becoming
Like an onion bulb, I will softly peel them off my chest
Layer after layer, exactly the way she embedded them in me
Unfolding stories of strength and tenderness
How she cradled an empire from the palm of her hands
But today, I feel like a Bard
So I will sing the praises of this warrior
Whose heart speaks love and mouth, forgiveness.
