AFAS ELECTION STALLS AS LAPTOPS BREAKDOWN FOR AGAIN; AFASITES REACT

Voting has been halted for the second time after the laptops used in voting have broken down again. While the systems are being revived, the electoral commission is trying to figure out a new voting process.
Many AFASites have complained about the whole process. Adenekan Adeife, 100 level Communication and Language Arts described the election process as too stressful and “the electoral committee should make the election run for two days”.
Oni Abiola Johnson,Theatre Arts 100 level says the voting process lacks organization, the committee should look for better ways to make it faster and less rowdy.
Aboderin Boluwatife, Department of Communication and Language Arts affirmed that “the whole election process is rowdy, uncoordinated and biased as the process is dominated by certain departments and people are voting on popularity, familiarity.”

When some electorates expressed their grievances over the failure of the electoral commission to carry out their duties effectively, one of the members shouted at the voters. It took the intervention of the faculty president and the speaker of the FLC to calm the infuriated crowd. However, the duo also expressed their disappointment at the electoral commission and left the voting centre angrily.
Speaking with AFAS Press, Hon. Soji from Linguistics constituency said the electoral committee had failed in their responsibility. He said the chairman was elected based on his contribution to the success of the last election but it is quite unfortunate that he could not perform as expected. In his words, “The chairman should have foreseen all these glitches and avoided them. AFASITES are tired and some are being denied their rights to vote. The electoral committee should therefore make use of manual voting system if the e-voting is not working”.

While many Afasites have bemoaned the delay. Some have already left the voting center after waiting for hours.
