SANE DIARY: The Need to hold Team Evolution Accountable
By Tijani Abdulkabeer
As students in the Faculty of Arts gradually resume for the new session, many thoughts concerning the kangaroo extra package received from Team Evolution – The immediate past administration lingers in their hearts. Though chunks of students already accepted it as their faith but on the premise of equity, some others still demand accountability.
Veronica, a 300L student in the Faculty is one of such students. Upon resumption, she approached this reporter and poured out her mind. She regrettably recalled how difficult it was for her to pay the Faculty dues, the several controversies that surrounded the dividends denied, and like many others already concluded not to take issues of basic dues as a topic of interest going forward.
The argument of these students is straight. How is it possible that they committed to being a financial member of the Faculty and they were somewhat defrauded? How is it even possible that they handed over to the next administration without proper auditing? And how come all of a sudden there is an increment of the dues? I mean, who bears the brunt?
Despite priding itself as the Premier Faculty, the style of administration of Team Evolution did not match the standard of this great faculty. It started with an election characterized by various ups and downs to a proposed dinner party full of controversies and ended with several rejoinders that revealed how disorganized the executive councils were and for crying out loud, this is too big a disrespect to over three thousand Afasites.
It should be recalled that during the early days of the crisis, AFAS Press published several stories on the incidence and rather than expect that they would resolve their differences and come to term, they kept playing the blame game and at the end left office as divided persons and I guess that’s the heavy price that Afasites paid for bringing them into power.
It’s a new dawn already but rather than feel excited about the development the injuries of yesteryear are still very fresh in our memory and as such we are paying leap service to the administration in town. Though, we expect the just inaugurated house to properly investigate the excesses of this Team – Evolution but how can we be sure this would happen when we now have the immediate past Social Director as the President and a member of the just dissolved house as the Speaker?
