It seems only a long time ago when Alawiye Israel popularly known as Prime was elected sport commissioner of the association of the Faculty of Arts. He like his opponent promised revitalisation of sport in the faculty. He emphasized that he was capable to reform and reignites other sporting activities in the faculty that have fallen behind in recent years. He was elected based on these promises but this question however remains, will he be able to revitalise AFAS sports?

Football has always been the main sport in the faculty, over the years, many past sports commissioners promised to revitalize other sports for it to stand at par with football and harness the talents of Afasites in other sports. These promises however have turned out to be empty as little or nothing has been done so far in the revitalisation of other sports in the faculty. The circumstance they projected to overcome perhaps became insurmountable to them.

The revitalization of sports, particularly other sports in the faculty is entirely needed and is nowhere a herculean task. In the last Inter-faculty competitions, the Faculty of Arts finished fifth, a very long distance from the first position, Faculty of Education. Even in football, the male team underperformed in the competition. They were knocked out by the Faculty of Technology after losing 4-2 in an entertaining and pulsating match.

The poor performance of the Faculty of Arts in the Inter-Faculty competition particularly in other sports is mostly due to lack of revitalization. Revitalization includes dedicating time and resources to the sports and its athletes. It also includes improving some of the facilities and jerseys used for sports. It has however sad to note that there has been a lack of jerseys and good facilities, particularly for non-footballers. This factor has sapped the motivation of Afasites to try other sports and harness their talents in it.
Now Prime has come with a plan to revitalize the sports, this is a plan that his numerous predecessors have not been able to execute these past sessions. Their inability to execute the plan has made it seem to many that the plan of the revitalization of sports in the manifesto was never really a plan but just a way of getting into office. Will Prime become just another example of a politician or leader with unfulfilled promises or join his predecessors who were not able to execute the plan of revitalization?

Revitalization of Sports in the faculty is achievable. If he and his team can come up with good plans to tackle the problems, they can be solved. These plans will also be backed by sponsors if it is good enough and feasible. If he can learn lessons from the mistakes of his predecessors whether in the planning or execution of the project, he will succeed in the revitalisation of AFAS sports. For example, there was not enough and adequate training for athletes and sportsmen that represented the faculty in the last interfaculty competition. They were also somewhat neglected. These factors contributed to them not doing well as well as they should in the competition. If Prime can learn from the mistakes made in the last session and focus his attention on the lagging sports, he will be able to achieve it.

Will Prime finally be able to revitalize AFAS Sports? He will if he chooses not just to be a politician by doing just his constitutional duties and what he is supposed to do but an intellectual and caring politician who wants his plans to succeed for the betterment of AFASITES. Whatever he chooses to do will determine what side of history he will be on when his tenure is over. If he is ready to work and put out good strategies to successfully execute the plan of revitalization, he will be able to revitalize AFAS Sports.
