AFAS Holds Freshers Orientation For Newly Admitted Students

The Association of the Faculty of Arts, on Thursday, March 10 2022, held an orientation program for newly admitted students of the Faculty.

The program which signaled the official welcome of 100 level students took place at the Faculty’s Large Lecture Theatre (LLT).

It had in attendance, important dignitaries such as the Faculty’s Dean, Professor Oyeshile; Special Assistant to Executive Governor of Oyo State on Student Affairs, Honorable Victor Olojede; Special Assistant to Executive Governor of Oyo State on Project and Delivery; Honorable Abiodun Oluwaseun; Special Assistant to Executive Governor of Oyo State on Media Print, Honorable Moses Alao; Faculty of Arts’ Officer, Mrs. Oluwatoyin; and Senior Lecturer, Barrister Oke.

Addressing the freshmen, the Faculty’s Dean urged the students to avoid distractions and put in great effort in their respective courses. He advised them not to rely on past glories but to use the stories of great graduates of the Faculty and University as a foundation for bringing their A-games into their Academics pursuits.

Furthermore, he touched on the ASUU strike crisis and explained that the Academic Staff Union of Universities officials are not fighting for their interests but rather the future of Nigeria Universities’ undergraduates.

 Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Oyo State on Students Affairs, Honorable Victor Olojede, encouraged the students to never relent in the pursuit of their dreams. The invited speaker, Mr. Adedigba Stephen, a career coach and President of TALK AFRICA discussed the theme of the program ‘Walls Around Higher Institution’.

In his presentation, he cited the importance of focus and purpose on the achievement of one’s goals. He encouraged the students to understand their strengths and improve on their weaknesses. Also, he talked about how the circle one keeps determines where one will find one’s self and how prioritization is important in academics.
