Students’ Union Holds Freshers Orientation Programme

The Students’ Union of the University of Ibadan, held an orientation programme for newly admitted students of the institution, today, 22nd February, 2022.

The programme which was held at the New Faculty Large Theatre (NFLT) of the Faculty of Technology was graced by important dignitaries, such as the Deputy Dean of Students, Dr. Demọla Lewis; Special Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State on students affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede; Special Assistant to the Governor on Project and Delivery Oyo State, Hon. Abiodun Olúwaṣeun; Lead trainer, Global Masterful Special Network, David Lawal, amongst others, to discuss the theme: “Why am I in School?”

Addressing the freshmen, the Deputy Dean urged them to always seek advice from the appropriate authority in order not to be misled. He gave the students the telephone number of the Dean of Students as well as his and further encouraged them to reach out when necessary. “You can always reach out to the Dean of Students Affairs, me, or anybody in the University at any time,” he said.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs narrated his experience as a student in the institution and emphasized more on the need for students to inculcate the act of making good friends noting that has one thing that helped him a lot in his career. “The friends I made while in the University of Ibadan and also when I was in Obafemi Awolowo University gave me an edge to my appointment as the S. A. to the Governor.”

Speaking on the theme of the event, David Lawal told the students to not only focus on their course of study but also look into their areas of interest and maximize their stay on campus to develop real-life skill sets.

“What you will do in the next 3 years to 7 years in the University will determine how high you will fly or how low you will crash.”
