The Faculty of Arts management, through the office of the Sub-Dean, has summoned the President of the Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS), for allegations of gross misconduct concerning refusal to follow due process in organizing the welcome-back-to-school programme.
In a letter made available to AFAS PRESS in the early hours of Monday, the Sub-Dean noted that his office received complaints from the Association’s Staff Adviser that the President went ahead with the welcome back party without approval from the Staff Advisers and the Faculty Legislative Council.
“That you gave the Sub-Dean, Faculty of Arts, the impression that the Association’s Staff Advisers were aware of the programme and that you have also sent them letters concerning the said programme,’’ the letter states.
The president was also alleged of not remitting the money gotten from the sponsor(s), and money realized from the sales of tickets into the Association of Faculty of Arts Students’ (AFAS) account.
The two-part letter also alleged the General Secretary of conniving with the president not to disclose the monies and other gifts items received from the sponsors of the party.
The letter reads in part: “That you connived with the AFAS President not to disclose the amount of money, souvenirs, and gift items donated by the sponsor(s) of the said programme to the staff advisers and the Faculty Legislative Council (FLC). That you colluded with the President not to remit the monies donated by the sponsor(s) into the Association’s account; and also to render account of souvenirs, and gift items donated by the said sponsors.”
They have been given 24 hours to respond to the allegations through a letter to be sent to the Office of the Dean, Students Affairs of the University.
