AFAS Press Journalist Nominated for Campus Journalism Awards

AFAS Press journalist and 100-level Communication and Language Arts student, Olanshile Ogunrinu, has been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the 5th edition of the Campus Journalism Awards.
Olanshile, who is one of the 2022 British Council Future News Worldwide fellows was nominated in the Upcoming Writer Category for his report titled ‘In Nigerian universities, student activists exercise free speech at the cost of suspensions’.
The Campus Journalism Awards was initiated in 2018 by Youths Digest to recognize, annually, outstanding campus journalists who have made extraordinary contributions to the development of the practice in Nigeria.
The event gathers some of the brightest minds on Nigerian campuses who come together to be celebrated and recognized for upholding and promoting qualitative journalism across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The award which has Olanrewaju Oyedeji, a Data Journalist as the Chairman of the screening committee received a total of 336 entries from over 50 institutions in the country. Mr Oyedeji explained that the screening conditions included clarity, language, originality, relevance and depth.
“The list is comprehensive of all those who scored high rates in the screening committee, however, selected finalists from the list will be invited for the main event in Abuja,” he noted.
Other students of the University of Ibadan that appeared as finalists are John Okafor, Adebayo Abdulrahman and Abdulrahman Uthman Ayomide, as Editor, Features Writer and Investigative Reporter respectively.
