This week, the faculty of Arts’ press had an exclusive interview with our very own esteemed hypeman, Tunchie Nla.


AFAS Press: Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Hypeman Tunchie: My name is Emiola Babatunde popularly known as “Tunchie Nla”. I am a 400 level student of the department of Classics. I am a hypeman, an event host, an event organizer and an event strategist.

AFAS Press: Did you choose Classics or did Classics choose you?
Hypeman Tunchie: I actually applied to study Communication and Language Arts, but I was given Classics. However, over time, I have grown to love Classics, it is a great course.

AFAS Press: What is your relationship status?
Hypeman Tunchie: As unbelievable as it may sound, I am currently single.

AFAS Press: Since you are single, would you like to mingle?
Hypeman Tunchie: Well, mingling is not bad (laughs).

AFAS Press: What is your best part about being a student?
Hypeman Tunchie: Hmm, it is a lot to be honest. I just love the fact that you get exposed to a lot of people, and everyone gets to mind their businesses without judging one another.

AFAS Press: What else do you do asides being a student?
Hypeman Tunchie: My job, events, parties….

AFAS Press: Why entertainment? What motivated you to become an hypeman?
Hypeman Tunchie: I have always known that entertainment is my way, right from my secondary school days. I love entertaining people, making people happy, I also enjoy the ambience of parties.

AFAS Press: Are your parents aware that you are an hypeman? What was their reaction when they found out?
Hypeman Tunchie: Yes, my parents know that I am an entertainer. They did not actually react since there was nothing to react to. You know, it is not illegal or bad to host parties.

AFAS Press: What is your best part about being an entertainer?
Hypeman Tunchie: I love and enjoy the fun attached to being an entertainer.

AFAS Press: How do you combine being a student and being an entertainer?
Hypeman Tunchie: Honestly, it is not so easy, but I am trying to be focused.

AFAS Press: Do you have any role model/models in the entertainment industry?
Hypeman Tunchie: Omo, I no really get role model o, but I love Wizkid sha.

AFAS Press: How far do you want to go with it?
Hypeman Tunchie: Omo, I can’t lie mehn, I am putting my all. I want to go as far as I can possibly go.

AFAS Press: One favorite quote you incorporate into your daily life.
Hypeman Tunchie: “Since no one is leaving the world alive, why not have fun?”

AFAS Press: What advice do you have for fellow AFASITES and other students who would wish to become a hypeman like you?
Hypeman Tunchie: Hmm, I would say that they should be sure that becoming an entertainer is what they want before going for it. They should not go for it just for the sake of the glamour and fame they assume comes with being an entertainer because sometimes, things are not really as you see it.
