Dear Uite, have you been seeking new ways to have fun and broaden your horizons this semester? If yes, then this is for you! From amazing battles of words, debates, and learning opportunities to exciting new interactive activities, these grand events are sure to bring out the best of this semester. So get ready to plan your semester calendar and be sure to keep these upcoming events in mind.

Jaw War 

The biggest public speaking event in any university in sub-Saharan Africa, Jaw War, is an annual competition hosted by TLDS, University of Ibadan, Nigeria (The Literary and Debating Society).

The competition offers public speakers in halls, as well as faculties in the university, the opportunity to showcase their oratory skills while debating thought-provoking topics of intellectual relevance. 

As this year’s edition is set to commence this semester, we will once again witness the grandeur of the Jaw War competition. We would watch public speakers battle with one another using their mightiest weapon—“their jaws.”

With promising entertainment and rewards in stock, this event is definitely not one you want to miss. 

The annual public speaking event, as announced in a statement signed by TLDS President, Neyen Williams, will commence on April 10. Stay tuned!




Lanre Bello Inter-Faculty Debate (LBIFD)

Another oratory/debate battle! Lanre Bello Inter Faculty Debate, which would be hosted by one of the most prominent student organizations in Nigeria, JCIN UI (Junior Chambers International, UI chapter), remains one of the biggest public speaking events in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

One interesting fact about Lanre Bello Inter Faculty Debate is that it offers seasoned speakers and even rookies the chance to deliver mind-blowing speeches on the grand podium. 

16 seasoned speakers and 16 rookie orators from faculties in the University of Ibadan will engage in a battle of wits and words. 

The eagerly anticipated Lanre Bello Inter Faculty Debate is set to hold at First Bank LLT, Faculty of Agriculture, at 11 a.m. on the 1st of April. Be there! 


 

Career Impact Now: University of Ibadan Career Event

The career fair is a 2-day event coming up this semester.

Career Impact Now, in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students and the Renewable Natural Resources Students Association, presents a career fair to students of the University of Ibadan in order to provide students with anopportunity to meet and network with professionals, learn about job and internship opportunities, and gain information and advice on the job search process in the industries they are interested in. 

This event will include a debate competition, breakout sessions, networking, tea breaks, refreshments, and games. It aims to connect students with professionals and organizations in order to help students prepare for their future careers. 

Do not miss out on this amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. Registration is mandatory for attendance, therefore, you must register to secure a seat at the event. 

The event is set to hold at 10 a.m. daily on the 31st of March and 1st of April at the Agriculture Department LLT.

Make an effort to set aside time to attend any or even all of these grand events, as they are sure to provide you with a worthwhile experience.
