AFAS PRESS Holds Workshop

The Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS) Press, on Saturday, held her annual workshop for campus journalists.
The workshop which took place at room 71 lecture theatre was themed “Finding your way as a campus journalist in the modern era,” with topics on both Solutions and Sports journalism.
Mr Jamiu Folarin, a lecturer and journalist took participants extensively on the rudiments of solutions journalism.
“It is a rigorous, evidence-based reporting on responses to social problems”, he said. He stressed that talking about Solution Journalism does not really mean talking about the solution, but providing evidences.
He highlighted what Solutions Journalism is all about and stated clearly where the thin line is drawn between this type of journalism and other forms of writing. He aslo explained that Solutions Journalism is based on four pillars.
Joy Ojeabulu, a sport journalist had a presentation on Sports journalism. Her session was tagged “Navigating The Waves”, stressing how to find a route despite the challenges.
She explained to the attendees that reporting about sporting activities is another important part of journalism that cannot be overlooked, further admonishing campus journalists to develop interest in this area of the profession.
One of the attendees, Oluwapelumi King expressed satisfaction with the presentations of the facilitators.
“The session was an insightful one,” he said.
